Billy Moore

Billy was born and raised on Chicago’s south side and grew up in the Auburn Gresham community. At the age of 16, unfortunately Billy was convicted of first-degree murder and served 20 years in prison. While serving time, Billy earned his GED and an associate degree in general studies from Illinois Central College. In July of 2020, Billy’s need to further develop professionally, lead him to enrolled in Southern New Hampshire University, earning his bachelor’s degree in general studies with a concentration in social and societal problems finishing with honors, Magna Cum Laude. Shortly after being released from prison, Billy got a job as a job coach, then promoted to site supervisor with the nonprofit, The Safer Foundation, that helps returning citizens become job ready which he was employed for nine years. In 2008 Billy’s story of reform was highlighted during a white house ceremony on successful reentry by the then CEO of The Safer Foundation, B. Diane Williams as the keynote speaker on reform and recidivation. In 2017. two weeks before Billy joined the IMAN’S (Inner City Muslim Action Network) Green Re-Entry program as its manager of case work and outreach supervisor, Billy’s only son became a victim of gun violence and was tragically killed. Billy started his career at Chicago CRED in April of 2020 as the Alumni Coordinator, and site supervisory support. Was shortly promoted afterwards to Alumni Manager. Currently, Billy is Site Manager at one of three Chicago CRED’s North Lawndale Hubs. Billy has become a published author of the book, “Until The Lion Speaks,” his personal memoir. Billy devotes his life to ensuring that other young men live lives of meaningful purpose as opposed to regret. Chicago CRED’s holistic approach brings together proven models—street outreach, life coaching, therapeutic counseling, violence prevention, workforce development, advocacy and intervention—to create transformative change in the young men and women that walks through CRED’s doors on the South and West side of Chicago. Billy has mentored hundreds of young people as a volunteer at the Cook County Juvenile detention center for over three years and as a peacekeeper and vanguard of the community with his hands on approach and sharing of his life’s experiences which has had a noted impact on countless individuals who needed a compassionate counselor to expose them to hope and lead them to risk reduction behavior.
